2000s: Cyclone Kyrill, Western Europe Container ship MSC Napoli was destroyed by a powerful windstorm in the English Channel in mid-January 2007. Cyclone Kyrill also hit other parts of western Europe, leading to 44 deaths and damage to an estimated 75 million trees. The hurricane also saw waves as tall as houses pummel the coast of the United Kingdom.
