1940s: Seine Flood, Paris, France While it wasn’t quite the deluge of the historic 1910 flood, a swollen River Seine burst its banks once again in 1944, flooding Paris’ embankments and piers. The newly liberated Parisians went about their business by boat and along precarious-looking wooden walkways, set up above the rising water.
