1960s: Tornado outbreak, western Europe You might not associate tornadoes with Europe but the weather phenomena is not uncommon on the Continent. In fact, numerous tornadoes struck France, Belgium and the Netherlands during the month of June in 1967. One powerful storm on 26 June charged through villages such as Pommereuil in northern France, destroying homes and buildings, and killing several people.
